Amigasa
An amigasa is a straw hat shaped like a folded circular disc or a half-moon, worn so that the crease runs from front to back, dipping forward to partially cover the dancer’s face.
It is typically worn, along with a yukata and geta wooden clogs, for onna odori, which is the female dancing style of Awa Odori dance.
It is also sometimes worn by Yosakoi female dance members.
The pictures below were taken during various Awa Odori festivals …
… and Yosakoi events around Tokyo during the past 2.5 years while we were living in Tokyo.

I love your entry.
I know that dancing Awa Odori requires lots of disciplines and skills. I am told by somebody in Shikoku that the dancer’s goal is to look like “idiot”. They look so well arrayed and synchronized!
Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful weekend.
Thank you for your comment. I love seeing the passion and joy of the dancers – great fun for all.
Ha! So that’s what it is! This is a great blog post. The kind of post I wish I had thought of doing myself 🙂
And yes, have a great weekend!
Thank you for your comment. I love your festival coverage, which certainly is more interesting and greater depth than my posts. Looking forward to your next one!
