Gundam Statue Returns with Light Saber

Last summer, the full size Gundam statue was built in Odaiba in Tokyo to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the RX-78-2 model.  It was very popular among tourists and locals, attracting large crowds (about 4 million total visitors).  Read my blog post about this event.

Earlier this year, the city of Shizouka, which is about 200 km west of Tokyo, announced plans to erect the same full-size Gundam statue this summer (around July).

As you can see from the pictures (artist conception), this giant Gundam will wield a lighted saber – way too cool!

Shizuoka is the city where most of the Gundam plastic models are made.
