Tokyo International Film Festival 2009

The 22th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) is being held in Roppongi Hills from October 17-25, 2009.  This year’s theme is the same as last year, with the focus on the environment and ecology – “Action for Earth”.

The festival opened Saturday, October 17, 2008 in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo.  The newly elected Japan Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama and his wife Miyuki attended among the movies stars, directors and producers walking the green carpet, made of recycled PET bottles.

There were many Japanese stars (sorry, I don’t watch Japanese movies normally so I didn’t recognized any), but only Hollywood actors Sigourney Weaver and Sam Worthington attended from the upcoming James Cameron 3D movie Avatar.

The ceremony was followed by the world premiere of Oceans, a French documentary about the marine world, as well as a footage screening of Avatar for the first time in the world.

The picture below of different movie posters, including Avatar, was taken inside the nearby Tokyo Metro Hibiya subway station.
