Japan in the News: Century club swells to more than 40,000

In a blog post last month titled Long Live Japan, I wrote that Japanese women had the highest life expectancy in the world, while Japanese men ranked 4th – just read a recent article from the Associated Press, where Japan has now 40,399 people aged 100 or older, surpassing the previous record of 36,276 last year.  More than 86 percent are women.

September 21 is a national holiday honoring the elderly.
