US President Obama and Diversity

Everyone knows that President Barack Obama is the first African American US President.  He appointed Hilary Clinton as his Secretary of State and just nominated the first Latina woman, Sonia Sotomayor, to the US Supreme Court.  This past week, in his visit to Egypt, Germany and France, showed Obama and his very diverse background.

First, He spoke in Cairo addressing Muslims around the world, although he is Christian, his father was Muslim.

Next, he visited the Buchenwald concentration camp in Germany, the same camp was liberated by American troops with his great uncle.

With his very rich and diverse background, it seems President Obama is able to more easily connect globally, which is very important in today’s “flat world”.  My kudos to him.

  1. The problem is that there are a lot of people, both in the U.S. and outside it, that really don’t want these kinds of changes. Newt Gingrich is announcing that Obama has failed, and there are many others desperate to agree with him. Yes, Obama’s picks are diverse and global, but they may not “stick” over the long run if the Republican party leaders have their way.

    • Yes, certainly there will be conservatives and others who will resist change, that is natural I think. As the official opposition partry, the Republicans will continue to offer a different point of view – hmm, that sounded too politically correct ;-).
