Weddings at Meiji Jingu

Meiji Jingu (Meiji Shrine) is a very popular place for Shinto weddings so if you drop by during any weekend, you will probably be able to witness one.

The formal wedding photographs are also taken around the beautiful shrine grounds.

  1. I was there on a Saturday – caught the closing photography sessions for one wedding and the grand procession (nearly identical to the one in the YouTube video) for another. It really is a sight to behold.

I’ve read somewhere that Saturdays are an especially good time to see wedding ceremonies in progress at Meiji-jingu. Is Saturday considered an auspicious day for Shinto weddings, or is there another reason for it?

    • Glad you were able to visit Meiji Jingu Shrine and also witness a Shinto wedding.

I am certainly not a Shinto expert so I am not 100% sure, but I don’t think Saturday is anything special for Shinto wedding – I think Saturday weddings are common for convenience.
