Useful advertising in Japan

The Japanese certainly have a different way of advertising – they hand you useful stuff! People hand out lots of stuff on the streets of Tokyo and so far I have gotten: Tissues (lots of these), fans (during the summer as it gets hot here – up to 40C), gum, magazines and post-it notes (I just got one today as I was exiting my subway stop). Below is a picture of tissue packaged in a box no less:

So you really don’t have to buy tissue any longer, just walk the streets of Tokyo and you are sure to get one. Now, if you are a real environmentalist, you will probably have a problem with this – but this issue is for a future blog post.

Is this useful or wasteful?
