Tokyo Anime Fair 2010
The Tokyo Anime Fair 2010 was held from March 25-28 in Tokyo Big Sight in Odaiba.
Entrance fee was 1000 yen. Total attendance was over 132,000 visitors, slightly up from last year.
As this was family event, there were lots of cute characters running around and getting photographed …
… and of course, the venerable Pokemon was very popular.
Dentsu had an interesting booth with a cute green blob, what?
There were several booths featuring independent studios and schools offering instruction and careers in drawing anime and manga, as well as voice acting.
There were a few booths with cutout characters (budget cuts due to the recession?).
China had a very large booth, and had cute Panda characters. Please read this article from Japan Today about China’s aggressive push into the anime market.
There were lots of different types of figures – cute, not cute and strange (the last one is full scale).
One of my favorites was the large Gundam displays.

Yeah, I wanted to go this year, but I couldn’t get a ticket for business day in time, and I worked the weekend. Maybe next year. Thanks for the photos!
It was quite crowded on Sunday (the busiest day of course).
How do you get a business ticket for these events anyway (though I probably couldn’t attend as I was working during the week).
A friend of mine bought his business day ticket from the TAF website. I tried getting mine in person from the Tokyo Anime Center in Akihabara, and all they were selling were for Saturday and Sunday.
Wow! Great post and photos on the anime event. We never got to Tokyo while we were in Japan but if we get back we will have to see it. I have a friend who is an anime nut so I am going to forward your URL to her.
Thanks for the nice comments. Well, Japan is home to anime and manga. Hope you get a chance to visit Tokyo next time (check out my latest post on the Top 43 Things to Do and See in Tokyo).
