2009 Roppongi Hills Bon Odori
Last weekend, the annual Roppongi Hills Bon Odori festival was held in the Roppongi Hills Arena in Tokyo. For more details about past Bon Odori events, please read Zojoji Bon Odori and Tsujiki Bon Odori.
Typical of Japanese festivals, there were a number of food and drink stalls run by local merchants in the area, as well as traditional games like fish scooping and shooting.
Shaved ice with flavoring is very popular during the summer in Japan, I got the premium version with red beans.
Before the Bon Odori started, entertainment was provided by singers, taiko drumming and an appearance by Doraemon which thrilled the children in attendance.
Men and women, young and old all enjoyed dancing the Roppongi Hills Bon Odori dance.
My wife and I even met a local news anchor (Channel 8), took pictures and even got her to autograph a fan, which unfortunately we lost. She is very pretty in person – we don’t know her name so we’ll have to find her in one of the local Japanese news programs – anyone in Tokyo recognize her?
